Cubic altar in Custonaci nerello made from a single block of stone worked in such a way that the exterior, rough, is "peeled" of the excess stone showing the perfection of the cubic lines

From the design of arch. Giardina was born this cubic altar made in the Sicilian stone nerello of Custonaci, a stone chosen to integrate better with the pre-existing context of this small and ancient church of the late 1700s.
Characteristic of this stone is the presence of more or less important intrusions of yellow ochre coloring; the architect's request was to use a piece of stone where these intrusions were minimal, so they went to the quarry to select the most suitable block, which was then squared ready for subsequent processing.
The exterior was then all worked by hand, at the point of a chisel, in pizzuliatu jargon, and then "stripped" of excess parts, obtaining smooth and polished surfaces. On the prominent part of the assembly a cross was engraved on which 24 kt gold leaf was applied.

Master Gaspare Cusenza is among the few artisans in Italy who can boast registration in the registers of the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference) as a trusted sculptor and authorized by it to be able to perform work at Catholic church buildings of worship.
